In the area of environmental law, Mr. Horowitz has counseled NGOs on the negotiation and maintenance of Carbon Sequestration/Carbon Credits contracts with purchasing parties in North America and Europe. Mr. Horowitz participated in preparing and registering the first ecological easement in Ecuador. He also participated in the first eco-tourism joint venture between foreign and local NGOs.
Mr. Horowitz has extensive experience in counseling foreign clients on cross-border agency and distributorship issues and mixed U.S.-Ecuadorian legal matters.

BACKGROUND
Prior to founding PAZ HOROWITZ Abogados, Mr. Horowitz practiced law in the United States on the staff and as managing attorney of the Alaska Legal Services Corporation (1974-1983) and as the executive director of the Ohio State Legal Services Association (1983-1985).
He managed the Intellectual Property Department at the Quito law firm of Bustamante & Crespo (now Bustamante & Bustamante), where he also served as a foreign legal counselor.
As a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer, 1970 to 1973, Mr. Horowitz worked as a land surveyor for the Shuar Indians in the Ecuadorian Amazon region. He taught philosophy, logic and economics at the American School (Quito) from 1985 to 1989.
Recognized as one of world’s leading trademark practitioners by Business Law Research and Euromoney.
Mr. Horowitz is a member, and has served as president and vice president, of Jatun Sacha Foundation, the largest private tropical forest protection organization in Ecuador.
He is a founding member and president of Fundacion Parque Metropolitano.
Mr. Horowitz is currently the treasurer of the Committee for the Improvement of Parque Suecia, Quito .
He is a published and recorded songwriter (Panhandle Folksong Books I & II; Folksongs of Southeast Alaska, Folkways Records).
Mr. Horowitz is also the co-author and co-director of the film The Sound of Rushing Water, currently distributed by The Cinema Guild, New York . (Original film in Shuar, later translated into six other languages.)
