There is a story told about a River that was cascading swiftly down from the Andean Highlands to its new home in the Pacific Sea. Upon reaching the dry lands of the coastal plain, the Wind heard the River cry out that it was disappearing into the sands and would never reach its new home. The Wind rushed in and said that if the River were willing to be transformed into a mist, then it could ride on the back the Wind to its home in the Pacific Sea. The River feared giving up being a river, but, as it began to lose more and more of itself to the sands of the desert, it saw that the only way to reach the sea would be to transcend itself from river to cloud, while keeping its essential being as life-giving water. And so it was that, as a cloud, the river rode on the back of the Wind to its home in the Sea.

Essence and Transcendence. At PAZ HOROWITZ, we think, at times, about Essence and Transcendence. For the people whose biographies you can reach from this page, the essence of our craft is honest communication, internally, among ourselves, and with our clients. While plain honest communication can be a transcending experience, our professional transcendence results from giving up identities as simply paid interpreters of the law, and riding upon the back of the wind to better serve our clients, our community and the system of justice that we will bequeath to our children and grandchildren.
